An-Najah National University announced the renewal of the Agreement with the UNESCO concerning the UNESCO Chair on Education for Sustainable Development and the Earth Charter for an additional period of four years. The two parties also agreed on the appointment of Dr. Sanaa Al Sarghali, as the new Chair holder of this UNESCO Chair.

UNESCO Chairs Program promotes international inter-university cooperation and networking to enhance institutional capacities through knowledge sharing and collaborative work. The UNESCO Chair of An-Najah University was established in 1997 as a research center to develop education, promote human rights, and offer the needed support and provide resources for the local community.

On this occasion, the Palestinian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science expressed its pride with this great achievement, as it reinforces human rights in Palestine and increases Palestinian outreach to the entire world. Also, the UNESCO Chairs current and future projects tend to focus on Palestinian elections, equal citizenship and economic and social rights for women.

Dr. Al Sarghali is a teaching assistant in constitutional law and Director of the Constitutional Studies Center of An-Najah University. She will carry out activities supporting UNESCO’s priorities and objectives and highlighting emphasis on educating and spreading awareness on the topics of human rights, democracy and peace.

This renewal is a continuation of the efforts previously made to strengthen the cooperation with other Palestinian and European universities through the UNESCO Chair.
